The Fire- The Mask
Kara is patient but she is also mean, intimidating, ruthless and an overall jerk. She wants to be alone, she likes being alone, she believes she doesn't need friends. She will do anything to keep people away from her and she has no problem hurting them, or getting hurt, to do it. Kara doesn't speak much but when she does speak her words are always ice cold, harsh or filled with a tone that says she really doesn't care. And its true, she doesn't care about anything, only keeping herself safe from liking people, to keep herself from being hurt again. When someone speaks to her she will either just look at them with those cold blue eyes and say nothing or she will send them a careless comment, her act of ignorance can sometimes get to people.
Kara spends all of her time alone, just sitting around or listening to music or even reading a book. She wasn't rejected by society, she rejected them, she chose to be a loner, she chose to have no friends. When she had first arrived at St Helena's the other kids had picked on her for being a loner but now, after her hard act came in and after she was the center of a few fist fights people learnt to leave her alone. She will fight anyone, hurt anyone, she just makes sure her point gets across that she doesn't need them.
Kara is a criminal from before she came to St Helena's, she stole, she raced stolen cars through city streets, she broke into houses. She also drinks and when she does she becomes even more dangerous, more prone to fights, but also, more prone to breaking down. If someone challenges her she wont back down, she never gives up. Ever. She has been known to 'snap' so be careful, she is good at holding grudges so don't mess with her, its hard to get out of her bad books.
Kara is very independent and hates when people try to help her. She also hates when people touch her infact you might get the impression that she hates people all together, but she doesn't, its all just to keep her safe.
Her past is what has created this mask, this hard shel. It has made her who she is. It has also given her a fear of water so she doesn't swim or take baths. It has also given her a few scars including a scar on her side from when her father stabbed her once when he was drunk and three straight lines across her left wrist from her suicide attempt among many others.
When she gets a detention, she decides whether she feels like it or not. If she doesn't she will simply walk around and do what she wants instead of going, if she does go she will sit there listening to music and usually breaking at least 5 school rules. She also skips classes most of the time, doesn't leave the grounds, just sits somewhere by herself. The teachers are actually glad for that as she only causes trouble for them and creates a rather tense atmosphere in the room.
She will fight on school grounds, she doesn't care if she gets into trouble, the schools punishments are nothing to her fathers and she doesn't care if she gets kicked out, its all the same to her. By now most people have given up on her and don't even bother talking to her. Those that do, quickly learn not to.
The Earth- The Truth
Kara is hard and cold to everyone she meets but thats only her mask, a lie, a way to protect herself. Although she is not always sure of this herself. She believes that if she makes friends she will lose them the same way she lost everyone else she loved, through death. Underneath that hard exterior theres the girl who first arrived at St Helena's, a sweet, fun-loving girl who thinks deep, has her own opinions and is just scared. Some people remember what she was like, most people don't realize its the same person and others just don't care or weren't there when she first arrived. When you first meet Kara she lets her mask do the talking, not letting you near her, not letting you like her or visa versa. But keep up with it and she might warm to you, catch her at the right moment.
When you do break past that icy layer you will find a friendly girl who, still doesn't talk much, but will play games, run around and be happy, never in public though. Once you are friends with her never make the mistake of trying to be friends in public, don't talk to her, don't sit next to her. If your friends with her, its a secret.
When Kara still lived with her father her siblings and her had been ordered not to speak, and afraid of what would happen she did speak, kept her mouth shut. She only started talking when she was out of the house and away from her father but that silence came back again when she was 14, after her best friend, who she had seen as her new family, was killed in a car crash. The muteness she had for most of her life comes back when she gets depressed, she has attempted suicide once in her time at St. Helena's, in her second year, the school is scared she will try again but they are even more scared that she could succeed next time but there is nothing they can do to help as she wont let anyone in her head.
She can also be quite sentimental. She is always wearing the locket her mother had given Chloe. A thin gold chain with a tiny gold heart on it. She had had a locket as well but her father broken it long ago.
Kara, in private and with one of her friends, is hyper and happy but even then, say the wrong thing and she would easily switch back, her mood swings happening instantly. Same with her hard side, one moment she could be sitting there giving you careless comments and the next she could be lunging towards you, fists and all.
Kara is one of those people most kids tend to stay away from either because they are scared of her or because they believe she is not worth their time, maybe they are right, but how would they know? They don't know whats inside...
nightmares her father, people finding out her past, losing someone she loves, water
daydreams To be free.
secrets her entire past, no-one knows about it, not even the school or police
what they see (the general student body's view)
Ah their view. They all see a dark scary girl who is always alone. A girl who you wouldn't dare approach. They try and keep away from her at all costs. She's different from everyone else in the school. They are never really sure how she's going to react to anything that happens, she puts them on edge.

description
Kara was born into a family of 5, her mother, father and two older brothers. Right from the beginning it was clear things weren't going to be good. Her father was abusive and her parents constantly in fights. The kids tried to stay out of the way, sitting in their rooms or running off to school. The next year, when Kara was 1 her mother had another child. A little girl called Chloe. Soon as Chloe was old enough to go without her mothers milk Kara's mother just disappeared. She came in one morning while Kara was hiding in her room and gave her a hug then kissed her on the head and whispered 'I love you' then quickly left the room. Kara never saw her again.
Now her abusive father turned his anger on them and began drinking heavily. He was none to happy about having his wife leave him, let alone now having to deal with 4 children. Now Chloe was 1, Kara 2, Ben 4 and Luke aged 5. For the next two years the kids were abused, starved and un-cared for. They were each given a list of chores and a time limit in which to complete them, also the order that they were not to speak. If they didn't meet the time limit or didn't do the job well enough it meant a horrible bashing. Kara never spoke, too afraid of what he would do. Kara now lived in terror just like her siblings, even Chloe seemed to understand the danger. Luke tried desperately to look after them, giving them the love that their father did not provide. Luke even found food for them, a great treat after no food from her father.
Three years after her mother left her father came home in a drunken rage. He announced the time limit was now halved. The four kids rushed around trying to complete the chores but knowing full well there was no way they could meet it. Sure enough they failed and as punishment her father grabbed Chloe, only 4, and stormed to the bathroom, demanding that Kara, Ben and Luke follow him. With no other choice they did, not knowing what to expect. Her father then stood there roughly shoving Chloe around while yelling about how much he hated the 'bastard kids', how useless they were and how he was going to get rid of one. With the bath full they knew what was happening and David lifted up Chloe and shoved her towards the bath, the little girl screaming over and over in fear. Kara (age 5) stood, too scared to move. Ben (age 7) seemed frozen in place but as Chloe's head was shoved under water and held there Luke lept forward and started to desperately attack his father, though it was no use being only 8.
That night Kara lost two of her siblings. Chloe drowned by their father and Luke, beat to death. Ben and Kara huddled together in bed that night, both crying for their loses. Over the next year the abuse got worse until finally Ben also disappeared. He just ran away. He had not said goodbye, leaving while Kara was asleep. So it was that Kara was left alone with her father at the age of 6. Now her father beat her constantly, didn't feed her but didn't bother with the chores anymore, which she found she was oddly grateful for.
When she was 7 her father kicked her out of his house, saying he was tired of 'caring' for her. So a stick thin, bruised and injured she became a street kid. She started to become a rebel on the street, a criminal. She stole food and money, broke into unused houses to sleep. By the time she was 14 she was drinking and racing cars. On her 14th birthday her best friend was killed in a car race. That didn't stop her racing but she became depressed. She quit racing a month after her friends death. Now she wondered the streets alone, she never spoke. Finally someone complained about seeing her around town all the time and seeing her sleeping in bus shelters and the police found her.
They talked to her, asking her questions. She refused to answer. They eventually asked "Do you have a family?" and she shook her head. She had lost her real family and her street family. They ended up placing her in a boarding school for Orphans, St Helena's. Her second year at St Helenas bought on a suicide attempt that failed because someone found her and left her with three dark scars across her left wrist. Still she spoke very little. At first when she arrived she had seemed happy and nice enough but that slowly changed as she sank into depression and she became the hard, dangerous figure she is now.
